UNcLaimed Property-New Year-Get Yours Now

Have you checked your state, other states where you've lived and family names in any states at all? Start the year off by searching and finding something you or  a family member left behind.
Here are a few examples of money held at the state treasury department in your state:

  1. Old utility deposits
  2. old bank accounts
  3. pensions
  4. auto premiums
  5. ins claims
  6. hospital refunds- and yes, old paychecks and more
**** and what you also should know is-if you have, had  a family member with a mental illness so many times they have money left in the state treasury office. People who move around with those illnesses many times have hospital stays and sometimes have worked. Their jobs no longer know how to contact so paychecks go to the state.

Baby accidentally Kills Mom

There will be many people who will have harsh judgements about what has recently happened when a two year old boy reached into his mommy's purse and took out her gun and killed her.Now a mother is dead, a husband has lost his wife and two other children have lost their mom, in addition to a two year old who will end up with scars at some point in his life knowing he killed his mother.
What will happen to him, to a poor toddler who did what many children do when sitting in a grocery cart. They peek, they snoop, they search and get curious. All, so very innocent and not knowing the age of the two brothers, will they hold this against him? As they grow older, will they remind him? Will they blame him? How will he handle knowing this ? He is the one, along with his brother who needs so much tender loving care.
Blame? Sure many will blame the mom, but she took the ultimate sacrifice possibly thinking to carry a gun would protect herself and her children. This is only sad, so very deeply sad. Now for the family just love, support, don't judge and pray for those kids and husband.

Chips, Dips, and Condoms

I know, what does one have to do with the other? Two words, Party items. So many over celebrate on this New Years Eve and it all starts out innocent enough and the guys have their condoms ready-UNTIL-they get you and themselves too drunk to use them.

Babies in September? Where is your life right now that you don't want to get pregnant or get someone pregnant ? Sure, it was just one night, one time of so called-drunken fun and now, nine months later your belly is ready to explode and if your the guy who did it, your wallet is too thin. Happy ending to New Years Eve? Well in a way yes of course because babies always make people smile, but not if you are an immature kid who relies on parents to support you.
So when you start reaching for the chips and dip, eat more of that and drink less. Keep your wits about you, don't get drunk, don't get pregnant and don't pick up an std either and as bad, don't get involved with someone who is married but out on the town for "just a little fun".
Happy New Year, Keep it safe and keep it in your pants.

CANCER's Common CONNECTION to us ALL

Of course I'm not a doctor, but after a chat tonight with a young woman at a local bank, with her telling me her mom is dying, stage four cancer which has traveled throughout her body, I, well, we shared stories of all kinds. I gave her two funny stories which lifted her up for just a little while. Imagine have to be nice to the public when your mom is dying. Her mom is eighty-two and many might say, well she lived a good long life. Hey! When it's your mom or dad or someone you love, it's never long enough.
While we talked she made me promise to get my cough checked out, saying that was how they discovered her mom had cancer. My friend told me the same thing about three years ago. I had a cold, but I will get a check-up after New Year. There is also a test called CA125-I am asking for it. CA 125 is a test to find cancer and most doctors do not tell you about it, so go, get it done.

So who gets cancer? Anyone. We have attributed cancer to smoking, asbestos, alcohol, work environment, pollution etc. But we don't all have that in common.
************************This is only my point of view************

Food! Food ! Food ! WE ALL EAT!!!
So lets start with that and see where this goes without me going on and on. Please take time and look up BLUE ZONES-I know, I know, people will say, but I can't afford to eat healthy which was my old state of mind too. When we do little in life, like watch TV, lay around on the sofa, read books on the sofa , talk on the phone, on the sofa, we are not getting out.
Second-I bought 5 oranges the other day at 1.00 each-compare that to a stop at a local store and buying a cup off coffee or a candy bar. CANCERS love that stuff and feed on  it. Anything that is bad for your body cancer attacks it like a vacuum cleaner picks up dirt. So work a budget and plan meals.Ask for help in doing that and yes, poor, very poor people make pots of pasta, potatoes, rice and load it with expensive butter, salt, gravy etc.
Third-while you start to plan meals and shop for those meals, remember to get out, walk, ask someone for a bike, ride, feel the wind in your face. Gyms have scholarships but get out. Do for others. There are exchange groups, free helps, some are called Time Banking-Hour World. There is help to help you do better.
Fourth-if it isn't food, what is it that causes cancer when the one thing that everyone has in common in this world is food.  How many who die of cancer don't smoke, don't work in pollution, don't work around asbestos and don't drink, so what is it? In My opinion it has to be Food. PLEASE get a movie called FORKS OVER KNIVES, study BLUE ZONES and change what you put inside your mouth because cancer is waiting. We all have cancers in our body which lay dormant and then we feed those cancer cells. Why they explode in some and not others may just be a matter of time and maybe if we're lucky those horrible cells will pass us by, so why not play it safe now. EAT TO LIVE.
Before you search I will tell you Blue Zones are areas in the United States and elsewhere where people live and  live very long and healthy lives. WHY. Here goes: THEY don't eat SHIT!

Sweet Petes-order Follow-up-Oh No

I love Sweet Pete's as I'm sure many do and maybe my one little order may not matter. I ordered The Tower which looked so good, well it only shows a tower of boxes but the description of what is inside sounded very appealing. It was a vegan and was going to be an unusual surprise. It sure was. My daughter loved the boxes, said how pretty they were, but what was inside, wasn't. What was inside were pieces of chocolate, shredded and stuck to the side of at least one box, a mess. In another was a chewy kind of caramel, but was hard as a rock. Yes, I know it's Christmas an cold outside, but she was home at the time, or close to being home. She called me , not wanting to hurt my feeling's but asked do you mind if I ask what you spent. 45.00-she was aghast knowing how things appeared just thrown in boxes and the taste of the had rock treat. Sorry Sweet Pete, won't order again. I think my daughter will get a credit or refund.

Now that's just me and usually I give things a second try but when you order for a special occassion and it just doesn't come through, time to look elsewhere. By The Way, I love The Profit. Marcus Lemonis is quite a business man and we need more like him. He's understanding, compassionate, but nobody's fool and has saved many family businesses. Now that's what peopel like Trump should be doing.

IEP's, 504 IDEA and ESY Special ED issues

Do you have a child in special education? Look up and read Legal Rights of kids with autism. It's an interview showing just how unfair many schools are because they pull the strings, but you have rights as parents and one is, Due Process,  also contact The Educational Law Center, and you can and should try to get a lawyer.

Better yet when the school does not move in the favor of a child with special needs who has severe emotional disturbances, call  the media.  Some years ago I said I was doing that after the bus just dropped a kid off in a strange community and he was lost, a second day in a new school, was supposed to go to the community center and no one checked on him. I called to make sure he arrived and was told-who? That started a search and me telling the district what I was about to do-yes, the media. They called the agency who stopped me, so you see it can work.

Not all parents can do this if they are only a foster parent without rights. But those of you who are, let the school know not only will you call the media but you will contact the ACLU. You can also stand outside of school property with huge signs. BRING ATTENTION, NEGATIVE ATTENTION ON HOW THOSE KIDS ARE NOT BEING TREATED FAIRLY !

The school may tell you they feel empathy or sympathy but I bet if the school has big tax payers in the district with kids who are children of those bigger tax payers or parents who have made donations to the community or the school, it's a different ball game. As you can see in teh interview, it's all about dollars, but it's also about who you are, and who you know.
Good Luck and don't ever give up.

Homebound LAW School/Education !!!

How many parents have tried to learn about homeschooling verses Home bound? I don't know if every state is different but here IN Pennsylvania, The Educational Law states a child can be home bound for three months at an hour a day. IT DOES NOT even suggest a meeting place as it was recently to someone close to me. HOME bound is HOME BOUND, in the HOME !!! What part of that even suggest meeting elsewhere to make it convenient for a teacher?
In addition it has been told that this will happen after school hours ! THAT IS CRAP IN A BOTTLE !
If a child already has severe problems during regular school hours, in order to prepare the child to return to a reasonable schedule, why tell the child that he or she will be met at 3:30 or after which means a teacher will be paid overtime or time and a half=same thing? That is more like tutoring and talk about distractions? IS this a way to have a child during one hour get up and down, search for a book, go to the bathroom, look all  around, time on a computer and all of that, the child is very limited to start with. Easy to pass an hour by allowing child to browse.
There is something called an Educational Law Center in every state, but besides that there are also places That deal solely with the issues of home bound students.
Remember home school is nothing like home bound.    Home school is a preference made by parents.
Home BOUND is made by the school because a child either has behaviors problems so severe caused by a medical condition or has a medical condition. If that child has an IEP, please check into Special education laws and Home bound. An instant answer isn';t to place the child into a residential facility because they, the school is not equipped or feels they have exhausted every measure, when they haven't.
Parents do your homework. Talk to people, look on line !  RESEARCH !  Look up FAPE and IDEA.
They must receive a free and appropriate education, which also has to do with the setting-in your home during a school day and hours. Good Luck and never give up the fight, because that's exactly what it is.

President Jeanine Pirro, A Real American

We the People, in order to form a more perfect union, vote for Judge Jeanine Pirro as the President of the United States of America.

She represents Truth, Honor, Justice, Integrity, Moral Character and the spirit that we once knew our Presidents used to stand for, tenacity! She is a no bull woman. She takes no prisoners, treating everyone with the equality they deserve, such as ISIS.
Do you want the atrocities to continue that we have seen in the last ten to twenty years, school shootings, drug crimes, gun violence, kidnappings, missing children and babies, loss of medical care, illegal immigrants stealing their way into our country, made legal by the present leader of our country. Our Country.
What has happened to our country? Is the present president, as well as some before him only consumed with their own egos that they can't really, don't really know how to be a leader and certainly don't have the guts as Judge Jeanine Pirro has to FACE THE NATION !

Too many people want to listen to what sounds like a Rock star. Then those people have their heads so far up, they are not looking at all to the future, at social security, jobs, education, health costs, veterans, police and firemen, nurses, doctors. Why? Because illegal immigrants are and have been slowly eroding our country.
Jeanine Pirro will stop that. By the way, I love Ben Carson, but I seriously doubt he would get enough votes because he is soft spoken and maybe Jeanine won't get enough votes because she is outspoken. The politicians we have now, have been taught how to speak, to LIE, to sway, to convince in order to get votes.
Now you can see truth when you hear and see people like Ben Carson and Jeanine Pirro. What and how they speak goes to truth. That is their personality, that is their truth and when for Gods sake will this whole country of  LEGAL AMERICANS wake up and fight as much as our military fight for our country. OUR weapon is our vote, the most powerful weapon we have. SHOOT!
How are your children ever going to pay for college? How will they get jobs when Illegal immigrants are taking over and taking their money. I'll tell you how. When you vote for Jeanine Pirro she will not let you down, you're children and grandchildren. She will improve the education system and welfare and she will improve and improve our military and make changes in congress, and hopefully have Ben Carson at her side.
Now that's EQUALITY!

Bay Ridge, HELP ! I need an APARTMENT for

Please e mail me at Nancymellow@aol  if you have a one bedroom apartment in Bay Ridge, for a lady who is retired, well semi. She still works as a school bus SPECIAL Ed driver. This woman is  a friend but I am in PA. I do go up as often as possible but now I'm having car trouble. She is not computer literate so I do what I can do.

Within the past two years she has lost in death her husband and a son who died from cancer. She helps her elderly mother a lot, but to travel so much besides work, from Staten Island to Brooklyn as often as she does is like erosion...
Her landlord is putting her out as soon as he can because he wants to sell. He has never kept renters long, always raising the rent. She does have a small dog and two cats which she can't let go of because they belonged to her son. Over the years she has taken in her grandkids because they had irresponsible parents. She nurtured, fed, clothed, drove them here and there all from her own pocket.  She knows as of very recently she can no longer help out extended family members as many just take advantage.
All she needs and would like to have is a place to call home and a peaceful life. She is a very good person and helps her mom who is on shore rd. in a senior living facility. Mom is 92! Can you believe that?...and she is so very independent . When I go up, we all three go to Dunkin Donuts, not like I need that around my waist.
    Please help and Merry Christmas
Feel free to write me to help here at my e mail or at my po box which is 156 York New Salem, Pa. 17371

GROW a SPINE

As Ben Carson stated, "Grow a Spine", congress because you don't have one now. What are you afraid of? Your party, re-election, your wallet, telling the truth or being true to your selves. What are you teaching your children and grandchildren? Do you leave  a legacy of cowardice like ISIS, or do you leave a legacy of an AMERICAN who took a stand for the AMERICAN people to do what you promised to do, to do what you were hired to do ?
Vote yourself in or out now. In ,you stand with and for AMERICA. Out you stand against AMERICA and remember the voting change that recently happened? Its coming again.
GROW A SPINE is moving across AMERICA
Pass this on if you believe we can still save AMERICA, because politicians are NOT, so it's up to the people who vote.

A Grandson, a Son and a Daughter

I am so proud of how my son and his wife are raising their little boys.  His wife is very "GREEN" conscious as is my son. They recycle not just on every day things they use, but touch the hearts of many in how they live. Volunteering, giving, helping, teaching and in any way they can help others in their community, they do. They don't just say, I'd like to but... They find a way. I do know we can't all be the same as we all have different lives, ages , health problems, finances, and so on. Oh my son and his wife asked for something the my grandson can create, not anything boxed, not a kit,  or a truck. Well, I have a bunch of cut up pieces of wood for Christmas and he'll be surprised how he'll get them.
My daughter is the same way. Every year she makes Thanksgiving baskets and with a friend delivers them to those who need a better thanksgiving, or just need some kind of Happy Thanksgiving. She bakes cookies, muffins and adds to what she can when she can besides her full work days. I have watched her grow more and more over the years to be a wonderful giving person.
Both my son and daughter have always given. My son used to bring at times almost an army of kids home-not always a good thing, but his heart was in the right place. My daughter helped hide a neighbor kid and made my heart jump into my chest as her mom came to me and asked, have you seen...? Uh, oh boy, and yes I told. But it's all about the spirit. One night at two in the morning on a cold freezing rainy night, my son walked two and a quarter miles to help a girl out who stayed the night. She and her dad worked things out that week.
Another night I heard a knock at the door. It was cold, dark and as I opneed the door, no one was there. It was just myself and my daughter home. She wanted me to get a flashlight and go outside looking.Another knock, soft as a whisper. This happened four times. He was hiding under a tree. The kid was scared. Finally he showed himself. He was a skinny little thing, froze to the bone, afraid of his father. We ended up taking him to the ER, called his father who said, he can stay with you. He did for  a few days, and returned home.  That mans' sons, two ended up in prison, another died and yet another went on to a good life. Through those kinds of times both of my childen said always," let him in!"
I believe the spirit of Christmas lives in not just my son and daughter, but my sons' wife as well every day. Between my son and his wife and my daughter they will pass a legacy of giving to everyone they touch, like a path made by rivers.

We all love our children and our children, no matter how we raise them decide on their own to be who they are as adults. Sure a great foundation helps. But I have seen kids come from rotten parents and grow into wonderful people and the other way around, so parents tell your kids how much you love them because of  who they came to be.

Hey! You two. I love you and thank you. My life has been a life. A life so much better, so much counted because of you two. I am so proud of who you both are and what you've given in life to make the world a better place. Remember too, all of the funny and silly crazy times we've had. I love you.
Merry Christmas, Mom

Ron Myrnes, An American Way

I was so very thankful today to have a railing on both sides of my side entrance to my home. When this house was built, the builder made a higher than high, step into the house. You don't notice it unless you're carrying heavy packages, aging, a bad knee, back, or simply in bad weather have to be more mindful of where you put your feet. Oh there is one more thing. Little kids with small legs. This side porch/step for little legs is like a mountain.
Getting railings was something Ron and I talked about for a while, but he's busy and responsible man with a family of his own, never mind all who want his excellent services and his ideas! They make me nuts. In a good way of course. They make me want a shed to build things in, get more tools and live elsewhere so I can sell what I make. I have a list for Spring, siding, bathroom vanity, new windows except the kitchen and  a few more, but for now look at those photos.
So when you look at the photos, what is missing is a freshly cleaned and painted large cement step. That has to wait until Spring. But I wanted to show them anyway because the job Ron did today in freezing cold weather is what many would say, WOW! He is exact in his cuttings and measurements. Ron cut out pieces as to balance the railing, keeping things straight and firm He used a special tool, sounded like a mini jack hammer into the concrete. He cut pickets to give added style and made cuts at the end of the railing to give a touch of class. I am very thankful to have this now as snow and ice will be arriving soon. Now if i slip, I have something to grab onto. By the way, this is not at all like anything you can buy at Lowe's or a home Improvement store. This is hand made from scratch, by an American in America.
Leave those foreign products were they belong, in the country they came from and hire an American person who knows what he or she is doing, has a conscience and is ethical in the work they personally provide. We talk about carbon footprints. Think about the footprints you are bringing into your life and home and where and how that money, that service, that craftsmanship comes from, an AMERICAN HEART, AMERICAN HANDS and an AMERICAN FAMILY !

Okay, well for some reason, I can't load my pictures, so i'll see if for the heck of it, I can load another pic. Well not working...when I can, if I can, i'll show some, sorry, and Ron, Thank you

Brooklyn Industries, Made in BROOKLYN New York

Hey people, check out that site. A variety of prices, deals, clearances, every day items, but mainly made in Brooklyn. Scroll to the bottom where they show a carbon foot print and I'm sure you can call and ask anything you need to know.
I just ordered and if you order over 100.00 shipping is free and we all know how businesses double and even triple shipping prices. Maybe to get a fair price on S&H we can ask to have it paid COD or ask why the S&H prices are so high, ask if they make money on shipping and we know they do, so buy AMERICAN.
More and more every day we have American made companies with carbon footprints, so why buy at that big ugly store that has ruined so many small AMERICAN from the ground up businesses/ WHY???
If you by from those big stores you are like a slice of pizza taking from the whole. One at a time is all it takes  to run the big picture-or one at a time not buying from China( that big store) is all it takes to REBUILD AMERICA.
    Thank you Brooklyn Industries :)

Special Education? What's Wrong with it & Whats Right

Anyone who is reading this knows about an IEP, Individualized Education Plan, a plan made for each person to fit their personal needs and academic levels, as well as Mental health and or Physical health, many times both. So that is what's right and for many children in school that works fine.
But what about the kids who have issues beyond a "traditional fix".?  The things that are put in place are, transfer to another school or schools, or programs. The reality is those kids more than likely have severe behavior problems and a schedule of academics with some Mental health therapy just isn't working. Why?
Because with the behavior problems they just don't want to participate, but they do want to control the adults and take away opportunities of well behaved kids or kids who have learned to behave to some extent, and they enjoy that more than you know.
We have kids who slide through school because of bad behavior and so they remain on a second or third grade level, even a little higher at times. The behavioral schools don't even want to bother with them so they let them slide through as do traditional schools should they be so lucky to stay. What happens at the high school graduation?
They receive a diploma that will say, Special Education which means THEY ARE NOT TRAINED, NOR DO THEY HAVE SKILLS TO GO TO WORK.!  With that at age eighteen many families look for caseworkers to find group homes or Parents apply for social security disability, do the best they can to help their child find work. These graduates usually cannot fill out an application, cannot use public transportation, and so it will fall on caseworkers, social security help, group homes,  and possible sheltered workshops where that child will be paid piecework, maybe amounting to 8.00 for eight hours work.
What is the answer?   Everyone knows kids, boy and girls love to play. Start in first grade with simple life skills such as the Montessori schools teach. Examples: sewing, washing dishes, cleaning, tying shoes so they don't keep coming untied, hygiene, fingernails, hair combing/brushing, dental and anything else that pertains to life as in MONEY-along with those teaching comes spelling, math, reading, play applications and all of this continues to the next grade where careers are taught.
So your child wants to build computers but too young to learn, start with erector sets.
They want to be a nurse...start with reading a thermometer , taking a pulse, numbers
They want to be a plumber-yuck, they have to have a stomach...let them clean toilets first and sinks and then ask a plumber to come in and teach small.
They want to be a builder----here ya go Blueprints-reading, art, architecture -let them start with scrap wood and have first to draw what they want to make.
IT can be done and when you have these children graduate high school, you will have people who are ready to work, ready to be self supporting, ready to be proud of the progress they made because the SPECIAL EDUCATION SYSTEM GAVE A DAMN.

Last note-Traditional schools do this with average kids too, push them through. You see, and I know you understand, if they don't play sports or don't have great grades, they're just not counted. Education should  fit each child. In High school you get to choose what you want if you're smart enough, but what if you're not meant to be a lawyer, an architect, a doctor, a teacher, a minister, a psychologist, an electrician? What then? Your child should not have to be good enough to go to a vocational school by ninth grade. Teach  those skills while they are still excited about education. Don't Wait. BY the way, look at  Vocational Colleges. They are Great!!!!

Schools, Vans and Educational Discipline

Supposedly you're not to complain unless you have the solution. That's an easy way out for those who aren't doing what can be done to say...see, we told you so.
What do you do with a kid on a van who doesn't behave and is destructive? You discipline him or her, but you don't reward them by giving them what they want, a seat where ever they want. So you make adjustments. If this kid is destructive and you are saying it's a safety issue, then pick that kid up last and sit him or her between two big kids. Lets see them destroy property then. Peer influence is a big thing. We can't spank, are afraid to raises our voices but as drivers do want to be a kids best buddy. Bullshit!!!!
Why is it kids cannot be disciplined ? What are adults afraid of? Why aren't adults, adults?
I Know what a touchy issue this is because most parents work outside of the home and can't start driving kids to school.. This is taxpayer money and the answers they have is, well this is a safety issue, so let's just give him or her what they want. How about an old fashioned spanking instead?
Kids who behave like this are bullies and cowards afraid to face in life whats needed. I have seen teachers attacked in school and they are not allowed to hit a student back. BULLSHIT again! Knock that kid on his or her ass, but good. We send this message every day. Okay kids, you can push, shove, hit, punch, spit at a teacher because you cowardly son of a bitch know-"they can't touch me". As you murmur that inside your head and as you are getting away with this garbage, remember the day will come-when you won't.

PCXpert in York New Salem Pa.

Need help, advice, lessons, yes they do all of that and more. I was pleasantly surprised at the services they offered especially lessons! How many computer repair companies offer lessons ? I know, I know, price, well that's something you have to talk to them about and budget for, maybe.  We all have a different set of priorities so if you need lessons and don't want to travel far, don't want to sit in a classroom, don't want to look for a parking place, won't be distracted by a group of classmates, odors, and have to be there the same time each day, then this is for you.
I am not related, if I was, boy would I be lucky. Anyway not to tear down another business,(no names) but I called someone else locally who wanted sixty bucks to look at it, then tell you what's wrong and charge accordingly. Also he mentioned the turn around time was one to two weeks. Sure that can mean they are very busy because they re very good, or it can mean something else. They might be just as good, I don't honestly know. However I do like the fact that when I walked in to PCXpert, one of the guys, Brian or Bryan, set my computer up, knew instantly it was a virus. He gave me a price and I said okay.
Early the following week Shawn delivered my computer, set it up and talked with me, to me, about this n' that concerns with my computer, such as I need a cable for my screen as it goes off and on. Today we were on the phone as he was helping me with an issue I had and I think now it has a lot to do with AOL.
PCXpert sells computers, sells new and refurbished computers and laptops.  Seriously people, support local businesses-if they are good in what they do, honest people and talk to you like your business matters, because that is exactly how I have been treated at PCXpert.

Don't Fly Illegal DELTA-Terrorists

Delta is supporting Obama with his immigration policy. WHY???? BEcause then they will hire those same illegal immigrants for less than what they are now paying baggage handlers, security guards and who know what's next? Replace the pilots. ? All about money. My family and I will no longer fly Delta.
There are too many airlines that want to pay decent wages and not just dump employees. Do you know Mexico is now charging 28. for every Americans to come to their country, yet we are about to accept illegal immigrants and this is what Delta is helping to support? How many terrorists will  fly Delta as they chnage employees who are not as trained as the present employees ? Remember 911-Leave Delta as they are leaving us.

Parking Meters, TOW, Cross Walks BOOT, HC Placards etc.

Good Monday Morning Everyone. It's that time of year again and those meter ticketers, meter maids are out in strong force, just waiting to ticket you. Yes it is their job, but it's your job to watch your meter.
Isn't your money better off in your pocket ?
So once you get a ticket, first you get a little angry, and then you put the ticket away-WRONG. If you in the area pay it ow, or go home and pay on line, or mail it in but pay It now. It's so easy to forget and then fines build up, and finally a tow truck comes along with a boot. Is your car going to end up in a lot being towed away?
How much can you afford to just piss away because of one ticket?
Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas

The Salty Dog 2015

This says it all !

It won't be long before it's 2015 and I plan to be in Brooklyn the last day of this year and the first day of the New Year, celebrating my last supper of this year having the best burger at my favorite place. Coming back to Brooklyn means home and any time I can visit the Salty Dog only makes it more meaningful. It isn't just a bar or just a restaurant but it's the people,
From the moment I take a first step over and into The Salty Dog, I always first notice the wooden floors and then me eyes sweep the room taking it all in, the firetruck, blazing a deep red, the brick walls and the bar. The bar at times looks lonely, waiting. It sits and waits for elbows, smiles, pats on the backs of friends, hugs, kisses on cheeks and orders of big beer mugs.  Here it comes, a frosty one and a big man grabbing the cold handle after a long day and taking that first swallow and just as he does a buddy walks in, pulling his thick blue jacket off, nodding his head and another beer is set up. The voices. Two men who share a same kind of job, now relaxed at home with who they know. Home as in the neighborhood place to be.
As I continue to walk to the back, I notice a few servers on each side waiting to see where I want to sit, not where they want me to sit. That's a nice feeling. No one is pushing me to sit in a section. Ah, I am comfortable. Adjusting my eyes to the dimly lit area I see some familiar faces, smiling and welcoming. They know me, as a visitor who comes up every few months or sometimes longer. It  doesn't matter. I'm just as good as any regular. They know what I order but ask anyway to make sure I didn't want anything different.
Then they look to the other side. My guest, usually a kid, but once in a while a friend I grew up with and no matter who or what, we are treated as friends, as long time neighborhood friends.
I'm a listener and a watcher and I see how people are treated at The Salty Dog, how they are spoken to, smiled at. Warm hearts. It's almost like saying, Who loves ya baby?  At times I forget why I'm there as I get lost in looking around. The photos on the walls, a fireman, history, buildings and a fireplace with a dalmation.
That dog who never moves but reserves in silence a place, a place for newcomers, almost makes me want to walk over and pet him, but all of this means, There's No Place Like Home.
Thank you Salty Dog

Christmas Music & Chrstmas Shopping :)

This morning while comparing prices with Fat Brain Toys and Target Toys I couldn't find one special toy I was looking for, an erector set which is twice the rice at Fat Brain. So I decided to look up the Target corporate office and ask how can I get one from them at their price. Maybe Fat Brain bought them all.
There wasn't any e mail contact that I could find, but happened to come on reviews and then I see one about how sad someone is because of the Christmas music, well lack of it. This shopper is Christmas shopping and asked a clerk, what happened to the Christmas music. The clerk answered, "I know, we had a complaint" end of story.
My personal feeling is, and we know Christmas is about The Birth of Jesus and it has turned commercial (old song).
So if anyone feels they are a Christian and is shopping for gifts and the store you re in has all the displays of Christmas shopping , but without the music, ask someone why. If the answer is, people complained, well we all know who in our hearts and why. Hopefully you have a cart full of items and you can feel good enough to leave the cart and walk out, and I promise, when I go out shopping this week if I walk into target or any store to Christmas shop and they have displays of such, but no music, I will purposefully fill  a cart, then go to a manager, ask why-he or she will tell me they had a complaint ad I will say, okay, now here's my complaint and walk out.
Okay Now I know, you're tired, you don't want to shop again for the same items at the same prices-DON"T.
Look at who you are buying for. Now it's time to go home, make a cup of tea or coffee or....Get on line and look up local craftsman for kids. For adults, write a nice and simple letter of why you are doing this, this year and give gift cards for groceries, gas, cash. I really do think, hope and believe they will understand.

Merry, Merry Christmas !!!

Snow, Trees, Love, Bay Ridge, Zion, Christmas

Somehow today my thoughts remained in and about Brooklyn. Christmas in my house was usually great when we were kids. With eight kids it was hard to imagine how one living room would overflow with gifts, and gifts that made all of us happy. What made me happiest was being able to go to church at Zion Lutheran, seeing friends and singing around a giant Norway Spruce.
The Norwegian ladies from Zion came to our house every year on fifty-night street to get shoe and clothing sizes of the kids, wants and needs. I watched as they made lists, asked our favorite colors and sipped coffee with my mother as a huge pot of split pea soup sat on the stove. When the time came to go to that party, we sang, ate, laughed, cried a little at all of the brown grocery bags filled and gift certificates for shoes were slipped down the inside of every bag. Our parents never came, but my father would sometimes drive over and we'd load up the car, and then we'd run home through the snow, the wonderful, cold and white snow filling our socks. It was the best of all Christmases.
As we got older time became harder for other families and we got less than when we were little. we were no longer considered poor. Yet being poor seemed somehow better, when you're little that is. I'm sure the grown-ups didn't think so.
Well we all know the expression, when one door closes another one opens and it did. It really did for me. That door came in the form of a man, Mr. Vitalo. He would become to me everything a man should be. I never saw that until I knew him, really knew him and I knew him because I watched him. I watched him as much as I could, and I listened to him.
While I loved this man, I loved him more it seemed in winter. He would stand outside in just his suit, jacket collar up if it was snowing, and rubbing his hands together for warmth while ushering kids into school before the bell rang. He stood about five feet seven inches tall, yet in my eye he was well over a six footer.
I watched and listened to him for years, as I was about to be left back because I didn't pass math or make my own graduation dress and I was happy to be left back. Then I would have him closer in my heart another year. But it wasn't to be. He passed me on the charcoal steps one day, said, "Hey Mac, ready for high school?" I answered, "oh Mr. Vitalo I'm not going, I never passed math or made my own dress". His answer for that was, "look Mac, you're a good kid, you just need a push, study more, stop babysitting (my brother-sure, like that would happen) and you'll do fine. This one time, I'm breaking my own rule".
I stood there, begged and almost cried to be left back. But he just patted my back and said, "you'll be fine Mac". He was so good, so very, very good, but he just didn't know what sending me on meant. I believe he was truly filled with gold. But he didn't know my family except a few verbal run-ins with my father to which he stood firm...well years moved on and oh yes, I did get left back in high school, taken out at fifteen, almost fifteen, to stay home and babysit.
Life passed. I married, moved on from the East Coast to West and back again, two children, graduated Penn State and still thought of Mr. Vitalo. I saw him on every corner in my mind. I felt his hand on my shoulder over the years and knew when I graduated I had to look him up. Besides having my two children, seeing Mr. Vitalo again was the third best day in my life. I'm going to end this here and remember that Brooklyn brought me God, Children, Mr. Vitalo, cobblestone streets and stick ball, Zion Lutheran Church, giant trees in sunset park and the biggest snows a kid could love. What more could I ask for ?

See the very Early stories about Mr. Vitalo

Let me Tell you about SPECIAL Schools

I worked in Mental health for quite a number of years and learned all too soon, if the new client wasn't on disability, they would be soon. See, they just didn't have the right doctor and were encouraged to talk to other clients because staff was not allowed to suggest a doctor.
So sure, friendships began, new doctors now helped people get Social Security Disability because now they had a stream of patients they could count on visiting at least once a month. Oh yes, new diagnosis were made. After all you couldn't get on disability if you didn't have the right doctor and the "correct" diagnosis.
Some have prison backgrounds and have a hard time getting employment. So what's the next move? No, don't keep trying. Get a diagnosis, Get on disability. Keep the system employed.

Now we have similar issues with schools who are mainly warehousing kids with mental heath issues. How many of these kids get out of these schools better off? No one wants to admit they can't help that child, but instead keep them in one place, bill the system for big bucks, keep the kids happy with earphones, tablets and computers. TEACHING ? HA!
The cycle is repeated when the child is passed onto another school, another program. So where is the success? Because these children don't do well in traditional schools, they are booted away from the average students or tax paying parents who have well behaved kids will complain, so to keep the peace, kick the other kids to the curb. Here in York, Pa. in my opinion we have such a system. WHY doesn't anyone see and start a vocational program for every student and give more hours to those who have mental health problems? Oh I know, funding! But they have enough to pay those same big bucks for special schools. Then, they can aslo keep those kids in their own district.

Yes, I am well aware who should and shouldn't have the use of certain tools. But they also have to prove themselves and will learn reading and math along the way. After all, what are they going to leave school with now? Maybe a fourth grade education? Then they are eligible to clean toilets. Hell, someone has to do it. What happens when they do graduate without skills. No, don't be silly, they'll be taken care of. York County Prison is waiting, three meals a day, doctor and dental care, television, exercise, more than they got in school, a/c heat, lawyers and....they don't even have to work for it.

Prison Healthcare Better Than....

How and why is it if you're a criminal you receive better health care that law abiding citizens? Just saw an episode of a male who was over 400 pounds, received a special diet, insulin twice a day and had a guard who became his personal trainer. Next the dentist. In our country you can earn just enough to not have dental insurance, but commit a crime and let prison fix your teeth.

Prisons also have the highest rate of suicides and attempted suicides. They are monitored more often now. Why? Because families will sue. This is the population of people who are brave enough to beat up, kill, rape, torture, molest, rob and commit any type of a crime decent hard working people wouldn't dare do. Decent people who work and strive every day to get by are the brave people, everyone else a coward. Oh, want to know why this latest piece of trash tried suicide? He stated he was lonely, and everyone spoke English, not Spanish, and others had visitors, but no one came to see him. Doesn't that make your heart bleed? Too bad he didn't think of that, prior to prison. Oh but isn't it amazing, this creep can write in English.

Our Systems are so screwed up and backwards. A health plan didn't have to be created for them. Congress didn't have to pass a law for them. Child molesters are protected ? Why ? Who protected the children? Prisoners who abuse, and torture children are kept apart from the regular population. I just don't get it, yet I know, they too are someones child, adult though they may be. Now they are protected.

Movie-The JUDGE

Today I took myself to an early movie, less distractions and much cheaper. I live in Pennsylvania and went to a Frank Theater, clean, fresh and relaxing I was ready to watch a favorite actor once again, Robert Duvall.
Starring with Duvall was Robert Downey and Vincent D'Onofrio.
I wasn't sure what to expect but knew once this movie started I did not want to get up to use the bathroom or buy candy. Robert Downey has a mature look and as much as I have mixed feeling about him, he did a great job playing the part of a son who is still hurting, even after having made great accomplishments in his life.
This is a movie in which so many of us can attest to, understanding each persons' role. From a disabled son to a son who takes on all the responsibilities to a son who is only looking in from the outside, yet achieved in life what many feel is a great achievement .
Powerful scenes make you forget you're watching a movie, but let you think this could be your life, or has been your life.  At one point I was dying for some good n' plenty candy, which this theater did not sell, but quickly forgot about candy as my eyes were glued to Vincent D'Onofrio as he spat out feelings of anger and more to Robert Downey. D'Onofrio is from Law and Order and I have seen him in other films, never failing to give great performances.
All were supported of course by the script and Robert Duvall did no less than he always does, star. His character left me with an emotion I never expected. As Duvall took the stand, it came as  a surprise that he said what we all think, what we all think for even seconds, and added something so powerful and softly spoken which made me realize I had goose bumps all over.
This cast, the writer, the scenery all came together as if a real and true story. I want to see it again. A last note here; As I left the movie, and passed an usher he asked which movie I saw. I said, The Judge. He must have seen it, because he then asked, "did you cry ?"

Corrupted Education System

I'm not saying it is or isn't but what is so very wrong in the system of educating children from all backgrounds and all levels, such as poor behavior, extremely smart, not so smart, average, and special Education ?
This is my opinion. We all know and it doesn't take a genius to know this; we are not all geniuses, so why is the education system not changing ? I have seen in many black schools and kudos to them, they have made changes, positive changes so their children will become leaders. Many now wear uniforms but there is more to their systems that other schools in all neighborhoods, cities and counties, urban and suburban are just not grasping. Why?
Is it ego's or money? I think both. You have a right to check out salaries in the school district where your child attends and or lives. Look at how much a school district superintendent is getting and yet the school is still failing by not implementing an education system that is correct and equal for everyone.
                                                        Here are their solutions:
Special behavioral schools, special ed classes, special vans-Everything is special except what they are doing, well not doing. Why ?
It all comes down to money. These Special programs and schools receive extra money and tax credits per student so it's to their benefit they keep a child where they want them. It's to their benefit they place a child in another school  so they don't have to really bother with them, yet to be fair, how much attention can you pay to a kid who is ripping a school into shreds with books, electronics etc.? Then kids who are trying to learn can't. So now instead of keeping that child in our own districts, that child is sent elsewhere. YEA!!! He or she is now out of everyone's hair. WHY?

Because these educators, the system, the board of supervisors, the school board, the freakin' checkerboard-who cares-are not doing anything different ! One thing I have heard over and over again is teachers in charge try to distract the child by doing other things. Yeah, that works for a short time but these kids are not dummies. Distraction is not creating, not teaching, not really ethical when we owe it to that child to give an education to. Yes, I know you're thinking how can you give a child an education  that doesn't want to be there? I do get that, and this is where leadership is failing. Teachers can only do so much with the tools they are given which isn't much because the schools are taking the extra per diem(money) per student and raising the salaries of the higher ups.
                                                       MY SOLUTION

In my opinion,  a vocational program needs to be built into the academic programs, early, not ninth grade. Take the money away that they are paying other schools and hire  sewing instructors, buy sewing machines, a woodshop teacher, and more. I am not taking about an hour a day or forty five minutes. To instill  value, a sense of pride and accomplishment, a child with learning disabilities, behavior issues has to know, they are not only good at something else, but that whatever vocational classes they take can lead to a career.
Maybe instead of getting your brains banged about on a football field, allow  the brain to have calming effects by using hands to create, learn measurements and yes I know it will never happen that football is taken away because that brings in money. But what about those other kids  ? What about their futures? How many will graduate with a fifth grade education and yet have a high school diploma from Special Education.
We continue to send those special kids away. We send a message on top of what they already know about themselves that they can't be with other people because they are different. No, they are not. Their needs are different and yes, some kids are very violent but why can't they be monitored more closely but also given opportunities that other kids in school have, such as music? They can and will change.
These kids have to earn  some music time, not taught. WHY ? Doesn't anyone see that given music, art, woodworking, cooking, sewing that those things build an inner strength. These kids continue to get held back emotionally. Wake up big shots, wake up....Remember, Correct and EQUAL for EVERYONE !

Ron Myrnes, That Says It All....

Yesterday Ron arrived, trailer in tow with my new upper cabinets. I couldn't help but try to sneak peeks as they were going up. As my walls transformed from that ugly old brown laminate cabinets, more than twenty years old into this new, bright open-spaced look, fresh and clean, I knew I was going to be more than happy. I was going to spend more time in my soon to be new kitchen.

Late this summer Ron replaced my kitchen floor. I do things backwards. He also put up white beadboard and chair rail. The floor is a nice warm vinyl . I was away and he sent photos. Looking at the photos with my son who noticed the1/4 inch molding to the floor edges, my son stated how good it looks and said someone told him he should add the molding too, to his floor. Ron also explained how, due to weather the floor will expand a little and retract. Every step of the way, if I asked and sometimes didn't , Ron explained. That isn't to say he had to explain or I needed an explaination, but it was more like consideration.
Ron Myrnes wealth of knowledge is beyond amazing. If we would see to it that our children are taught more than academics, computers, television, iphones and game systems, we would not only have a happier generation of children, we would have  a genertaion of kids who have learned real challenges. Learning hands on skills with a use of numbers, accomplishes things they can see and feel and over all we will have a generation of children who are MENTALLY HEATHIER !
What has happened to generations of moms and dads who taught their kids the skills they were taught growing up? What?
I asked Ron one time how he knew what he knew. While his career was different than his hands on skills, he told me he learned most of his skills from his father. Yes I know many moms and dads don't have the skills to teach their kids a hands on trade and it doesn't have to be for a vocational trade, but it can be a side skill, something as we know "to fall back on" and more than that, busy hands, happy hearts. Happy hands keep kids out of jail.
Parents grab a grandfather. Go to a senior center and ask for help. Many of those seniors would love to come to your home to help and as I write this, I will do the same. You will accomplish a few things: letting a gentleman or lady use skills they may not have used in a long time, feel useful again , create a bond between generations and have a child learn more than what he may or may not be struggling with in school. We all know when a child learns more, he or she is happier. They feel they have accomplished something.
Ron, I am so thankful, if you see this for all of your skills, sharing things with my little guy but most of all, being an ethical person, hard to find when you need a job well done, and the jobs you have done are more than well done. Thank you, again.

Why Don't They...IEP's Special Ed

Have you ever been to a Special Olympics Bowling game and No I am not specifically talking Special Olympics, but using that as a comparison. By the way if you have a child with Emotional problems they too can join and believe me, they feel not only at home, but after a while a leader.

I'm not a teacher or a parent who has a child with special needs. My kids are grown and on their own. But I work in foster care and have learned so much about the problems in schools. These kids just don't get out!
Do you have to be a good academic student with average intelligence to get outside and play in sports or get get fresh air? It appears so. So for kids who have so many issues, anything from PTSD, to Oppositional Defiance Disorder, to Autism and many more get stuck inside all day. Six hours at least in chairs. These are educators. Get them out. Ask for it in their IEPS !!!
When each child has to have an eval, ask the doctor to recommend  a half an hour morning and afternoon outside play time. Then you have room to compromise to fifteen minutes. If enough kids with IEP"s Have their doctors recommend outside time as necessary to emotional growth, I believe it can be done.
Other "wise" the statements are in meetings, there isn't any time, we crunch classes as it is. Sure but at what expense. Let those children have school days as long as any other child and then you not only have the time, but happier children who will want to do more in school. It can be added in the IEP, that should a child be so out of control, he or she can only go to the gym that day for safety reasons.
Men, where are you? Too many kids in these schools do not have any use for female teachers because in many situations it's mom who is missing as well as dad but yet these kids listen to men more. Fear or do they want a male role model? Same with female students.
Please chnage the IEP's. When I asked about my little guy going out for recess type time, I was told, they don't have enough time in the day. IN an IEP, they will make time.
Last note, about Special Olympics and funding...why can't schools get the same kind of funding? They fund football games after all, soccer, basketball and more...so what about your child?

Stifling Education-Overloaded Stimulation

As I sat at my computer listening to this guy which I never do, sit and listen that is, it hit me. We all educate to some degree, but we are not school teachers. Kids are made to sit and listen in an environment that is stifling.
When I last went into a room for a child with  add/adhd it was filled, loaded, overloaded with stimulation, colors, books, colors, papers, games, chairs, tables, colors, sitting corners for relaxing and this was top to bottom.
Not my first time in a class such as this and they are all the same. Another one had computers in it along with all of the other stuff. What in the world are the trying to do? These are classes for kids who can't, don't and won't sit still and as educators don't they know kids aren't meant to sit still ? So what do they do, antagonize kids with all of the stuff surrounding them. I'm sure not intentional, but possibly to peak their creative minds ? Yet, aren't those same children taking ideas from what's already been done instead of being creative on their own. Yes, I know, society does the same.
Yet in a class it's different.
Start with a blank slate. Give kids a drawing, writing pad and pens, pencils and let them go for  a few  days. Let them talk to one another. I know teachers, you have to give a schedule of what you have to teach, but does it have to be so scheduled and the same, over and over again?
Ask them at the start; What do you want to learn? Yes I know again they have to learn and pass certain subjects, but make it more enjoyable, and then maybe you'll enjoy it more too as when you first had that passion to teach.

Stop & Go Deli, Brooklyn NY

On a recent trip to Brooklyn which was too short, I stopped at a couple of deli's in Bay Ridge.  For those who don't know what a deli is, it's short for delicatessen. Every time I'm in Brooklyn I try a new deli out. Usually I stay at a local hotel and everything I would need is in walking distance, if I needed anything. The hotel is on 84  street and 4th ave. So the first night I walked up to a deli on 5th ave. and 84th street. Don't go there. There were two men in the store. One sat on a step behind the counter while the other young man asked what I wanted, all business. I told him and he asked what kind of  bread, a roll or hero. I chose a roll, wrong choice. To be honest it was about 8:00 p.m. and rolls do get stale when left in the wood boxes with a plastic cover by then. This one tasted like it came from the day before. The lettuce was wilted and brown. Because I was hungry and back at the hotel I ate the smaller half, and threw the rest away. I decided right then that was a last trip at that deli.
Now if you're a shopper and like to walk, two blocks away is a deli on 4th ave and 86th st. I wish I could tell you the name because there are two and one is so very much better, so it's up to you.

Here is what I found to be a five star rating Deli: It's named Stop and Go ! The address is 7618 3rd ave. Before I get into this experience, I know you can shop at food Lion or a large grocery store, buy lunch meats, bread, rolls,  condiments etc.  Also think about lines, unless you don't mind and getting a parking place in a small lot and does the hotel have mini-fridges'?
Now back to STOP & GO. This deli is run by Alex and his brother Isaac.  I was blown away by the sincere attitude, smile and attention both of these men gave me as I ordered. We chatted as I let them know on different days how impressed I was with the cleanliness! Prices are fair and reasonable. They offer a nice variety of lunch meat sandwiches, but not so much, that you stand there reading a huge deli board. This deli is just right :)  STOP & GO !
My first visit I ordered a roast beef on a roll with mustard and a little mayo. Alex gave me just what I ordered. You know how many deli people never listen and slap a load of mustard and mayo on, so much it slides all over and outside of the bread or roll, making one sloppy mess? When I got back to the hotel, relaxed , got comfortable and took that first bite, I knew I would be back as often as I wanted a freshly made sandwich in a clean environment with nice people who made you fell welcomed and thanked you for your business. They smile! What a wonderful feeling If they owned a hotel I would be their forever guest!
That day I was in twice and knew before I left to go back home, I would stop there again, buy a sandwich for the trip and would enjoy the freshness, fair prices and people who appreciated business. The next day I didn't see Alex but another man behind the counter, just as friendly and when I asked for a roast beef sandwich, he told me, "oh I am so sorry, we are out of roast beef." If you saw his face, he was truly sorry. It was almost cute, he looked  how I felt. No roast beef! In a deli? Guess I had it all the day before. So what I thought. Whatever I buy here will be great and boy was it. Isaac asked my name . Who does that in these days. People just want your money, and rarely any eye contact or smiles. Not at STOP and GO.
At STOP and GO Isaac made me a turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread. Lettuce and tomato with mustard and mayo, just right amounts, and he gave me a cup of coffee on the house! What a place! I was a guest, a visitor, so don't go running in and ask for a free coffee. These men deserve every penny they earn. We talked a little more and it was time for me to leave. I stopped in Jersey, pulled over and had my sandwich.
You just won't believe it. That bread tasted like it just came freshly out of the oven! No where on the turnpike would I get a sandwich like that. The value is more than fair. So when you're in Brooklyn, look for 7618, 3rd ave and they have a big red and white awning outside that shows
STOP & GO. Tell Alex and Isaac, Nancy said hello and thank you again.

A Father's Rights-Discrimination ?

Today I met a young man who is stable, nice, angry, pays support, works overtime just to pay attorney fees and loves his child. He isn't like many single parents who say, ah, let me pay support, then I can party weekends. No he works and wants his child, now full-time. Why? Because the ex is not giving the child a stable life, moves too many times- just because.
In my opinion there is a strong sense of discrimination towards this man as I listened to his story. Just because you are a woman, doesn't entitle you to keep the children and just because you bore them doesn't mean you are closer, having bonded more, as I have learned over the years, that 's just anatomy.  Times have changed and there are all kinds of  discrimination against people. So who gets to prove those issues? Will a court system say dad gets the kids because he is gay and the court doesn't want the Gay and Lesbian and on and on against them, worrying about votes? Will a court system give the kids to dad because he is really the best parent ?
The court system, political system has to stop the crap and allow children to live with the stable parent, the one who lives in a same place, keeps a steady job, has long tern relationships and that those relationships are healthy as well, physically and emotionally. What happened to decent parenting?
What happened to decent lawyers, lawyers who don't don't rob you blind out of the money you can put into a childs' future, or a special vacation ? What makes them deserve 250. an hour? They drag things out and out which means more money for the lawyer. Sure they have bills to pay too, but do they think they are GOD???
I would bet any amount of money these lawyers tell you they have faith in God or a higher power. Sure, their banks. If a lawyer is truly there to right wrongs how is it they make it wrongfully so in charging thousands of dollars for a divorce and support ? How is that righting a wrong? Wait until it happens to you...oh I forgot, you have plenty of money. YOU stole it from hard working people, in my opinion.

Bi-Racial Obama

I know, what difference does it make. Well too many people continue to call him the first black American President or the First African American, both incorrect according to Obama himself, but look at other Celebrities who have green or blue eyes. They too identify as African American but not Bi-Racial so why do they want white Americans to say, we all came from Africa? I have heard that so often. I did not neither did my ancestors come from Africa, just as Obama is African American, I am all American with European ancestry.

My Carrot Peeler

Yesterday morning I put my little guy to work in the kitchen with me. Someone introduced me to Time-In instead of time out, but this wasn't the case. Before I go on, we all know what time out is-instead try time in. The child gets to work with you and remain stern during that time.
So, the day before I cooked a chicken in a crock pot, drained it, let it cool, took apart and put in the fridge. I left the chicken broth in the fridge over night and the next day all of the fat was on top, to be scooped off and discarded. I bought fresh string beans, carrots, garlic and red potatoes. My little guy was anxious to help but never used an old fashioned peeler. It was time. There he stood after a lesson or two peeling away and he loved it. I was snipping the green beans and peeling small red potatoes. Next time, I am buying the bigger reds, easier to peel.
While I was getting the chicken ready to pull apart, I took out a big bowl of strawberries and showed him how to use a paring knife. He was thrilled to know a knife is to be used with trust and instructions. We all know how our hands get sore when doing monotonous work. After working more than two thirds of the way, he asked me to finish. He also ate while he cut. In the end he loved the crock of carrots, chicken, beans and potatoes. I didn't add any salt or pepper as I want him to learn, we just don't need that stuff. Okay, I did sneak a pinch or two so I let him also have a pinch. When I asked him if he wanted a pinch, he came over to me smiling and pinched my arm. He'll learn.
This morning I let him finish the last of the strawberries.

Immigrant Kids Vs. America

Most of us have a heart when it comes to innocent kids, but how many now know all they have to do is ask for asylum because of whatever is going on in their own countries. When does the support stop? When we're broke? We don't even take care of our own kids as in how many are homeless because of abuse at home. No different than abuse in other countries but our kids run away to US, not to other countries.
Kids from other countries have learned they have rights almost as soon as they get here and they teach each other what to do and say in order to stay. A young boy who was on TV tonight was interviewed and he spoke in his native language, not even attempting to speak any English. Why? I bet he can ask for a soda. While I may sound heartless, it's heartless to allow American kids to sleep in the streets. It's heartless to give kids an education which they can't grasp and instead offer a vocational education. It's heartless to bargain a kid for an adoption stipend which is the law. It heartless to let our vets go without health services much needed and our elderly without dental and medical needs and housing.
We have too many of our own American citizens going without that we allow immigrants in as our country is falling into desperate times and our jobs are going, going gone, overseas ad families are going hungry, can't afford a pair of glasses, a cane, a meal.
If we are going to let these kids in, these kids who know how to travel here, know how to manipulate, let them learn how first to get a sponsor who can afford an extra child, not going on the welfare system. Let them also sign a waiver to join the military as soon as they graduate out High Schools to pay back for coming to our country where they will be supported and so let them support our freedoms, the kind they used to get here in the first place. Let them learn to pay it back.

Out The Nanny Now

Those poor people with this nut in their home, a so called nanny who sues people, holds them hostages, so I think they have central air. It's worth to go to the ductwork to her room and seal it off, cut it off. seeing this old bag on Tv this morning she looks very clean so I imgaine she has bathroom access which of course she better have or she'll crap in the bed. But cut off water in teh top floor bathroom if possible.
What about piping heavy metal music into her room? How and where does she get food? Cut the flow off. Does she pay rent? Cut off the electric to that room ! Renters pay electricity, water, phone, gas, trash and even sewer.
These are smart people, but can even they stand to have heavy metal played in the home? I would try anything short of, or maybe not, the russian mafia paying her a visit. I am joking of course-I don't believe in violence. Call the fire department to do a home safety inspection includng her room in which she has to comply or else. Good luck people.
By the way I did hear you want to go on vacation July 4th and are worried about her locking you out-THAT has been done before-Squatters have taken over homes of good people letting them in to help out, so unless you get the mob in or special family to live there while you're gone, stay put.

Pete's Sweets & The Profit

I love this show ! How Great is it to have a guy come to you, not you go to a bank, beg for a loan you know you can't get, and along comes The PROFIT, Marcus  Lemonis who has a heart for People, Product and Profit. I wish I knew him when I was trying to create Doozybags. One time a guy contacted me and asked me to make five hundred golf bags because he liked what  sent him as a gift, but no way could I produce what he wanted for the cost he wanted.
Right now I am trying to work on my house but in the back of my mind I never gave up Doozybags, and I know I have to stay focused, so finish the house stuff first, then organize my sewing supplies better and I am going to give it all I've got during these retiring years. Something else I need to know better is how to fix some things on my PC.  With this site alone suddenly my spelling corrector won't work. I will reread and do my best, so hopefully you understand.
Now SWEET PETE"S oops, PETE's SWEETS, see either way that name sounds great, but it is Pete's Sweets. I loved watching this back and forth between Pete's fake partner, a guy who only wanted more, because he knew Marcus Lemonis was now involved. What a mind Lemonis has. He found a claus that should a shareholder not be able to equally meet the money put into the company those shares become less and less until he no longer has any shares at all, and yet the guy thought it all unfair. This was a man? who shook hands, agreed to work, but nope, he wouldn't or couldn't stick to it and told the Profit he wanted one hundred and fifty thousand dollars, (150,000.00) to be bought out. Marcus asked, to buy out what? What did you put in, two thousand?
I love to see greed snuffed out and the look on Pete's face, his wife and Lemonis for a new, bright and prosperous American dream future is definitely worth staying up for. Good luck Pete, although with the wife you have, the staff that stood with you and Marcus to save you and kick butt from that deatbeat, you will surely succeed.

Parents? How many Chances ?

I'm sure many have read the recent article about a so called man who left his baby in the hot car while he worked a seven hour shift and the police found  a  search on his computer about how long does it take for an animal to die in a hot car. The police also say it isn't proven yet if he was the one to complete the search.
Sometimes I do hate to be fair. I know if you are under so much stress you do almost forget and even forget a sleeping baby in the back seat, but you still have to take the punishment and sure many will say but he's already punished enough.
Well I for one am sick of seeing so many neglectful and even abusive parents get chance after chance to bring a child home , only  to do it again. Is this all because of the cost? If a child goes back home, that means no more foster care costs. If a child is adopted the state still pays a stipend until the child is either eighteen or twenty-two and in college, and the same with kin-ship foster care and guardianship, so do they just want to save the state money at the cost of the life of a child? End of Story. Or is it ?

Logan's 4 Steaks York Pa.

Today I had lunch at Logan's, off white street in York. I prefer to go in the off hours, less crowded, more relaxed and not as noisy. To be honest even when I have gone during regular dinner hours, it's isn't as noisy as another steakhouse in town. So for comparison, that other Steak house, well, it appears from my PAST experiences, the servers never have enough quality time to attend to orders and diners.
At Logan's, having been there many different times, observing all servers and managers, I see a place where I want to take my favorite people to, family and friends. It's peaceful, has a bar which I haven't ever seen anyone get out of order, or even drunk. This is truly a family restaurant, but also  a place where a bunch of guys or gals...did I say gals? Yes, where they would want to meet, hang out, have chicken, steak, a burger, beer and anything else that whets their appetite.
There is also a meeting room in the back, for parties and any function you might want. I now feel like a personal representative for Logan's :) But I'm one of those people who have lived  on the East coast most of my life and lived also on the West Coast. Having visited the mid-west too, I am sooo serious when I say you won't be sorry when you dine at Logan's. It isn't just the service which is great, but the management and whatever happens in the kitchen is to, well order and savor slowly.
I am thankful to the management, servers and cooks for making my experiences as good as they are. A last note, another observation. Children. I have had a few different kids in as visitors etc, and they too are treated as if they're picking up the tab. Servers make eye contact with them, make helpful suggestions and the kids love that attention just as much as the adults do. So when you have a server anywhere take care of them as they do you. Should you ever get a poor meal item , it isn't their fault, so again if you can afford to go out to eat...well remember the server.

9/11 Security Fee, Airports

Have you ever read your flight tickets really well? I just read mine and see a ten dollar fee for security dedicated to 9/11. So does that mean in all this time of those who have paid that fee and yes we still have had those people of garbage who have carried on underpants bombs, that we can sue the airlines since we are paying that fee? What exactly is the fee for? Being searched? Who knows but I do think we need a better explanation for it and I am not at all against such searches, a a matter of fact I welcome them-to a point. It is those who don't have a certain look, we need to be more careful with and ten again, other who have that look, the look of 9/11 terrorists, that allow the US to be accused of profiling, a word I am personally sick of.
People this is all about safety! Get on Board! No pun intended. So what if you are profiled, so what if you're not. Let's just be safe out there.  Just for the heck of it let's look  people this way:
Gramps...and old man, bending in an aged position, glasses, not as clean shaved as he used to be, but is now carrying pieces of explosives in all parts of his clothing while trying to distract and engage at the same time those who least expect him-same with ol' Gramma.
The student-having a chat with another student about Grammar or photography...seems innocent enough-NOT AT ALL.
A young and new parent-appears only to be concerned with baby, looks all American, and can we now ever go on" LOOKS"
Darker skinned young man with a beard-most suspicious-guess what, he's a real student of Photography, travels the world to get the best photos, has all of the "LOOKS" and he is pulled off line.
So what do we do? Treat everyone the same for safety's sake. Maybe we worry as much about a sober pilot. Do they have to blow before they go? They should.

Matt Landry, Detroit, Obama's Friends

I just watched this story. It was from 2009 an old dateline story about a good kid, a good kid who went out to buy a sandwich to make his girlfriend feel better. He was jumped by cowards, punks, losers in society who blame others for their sad life stories and then steal, harm, kill and claim to be not guilty. In the case the killer was found along with a coward friend in the streets of burned down detroit, in a burned down house where Matt Landry was found, where his dead body was  dumped by those inhuman pieces of societies garbage.
Matt Landty's mother begged the administration to clean up detroit and the mayor. The only one cleaning up that city is the Rehab Addict Nicloe Curtis. She should receive the pay of the president and his buddy, the mayor. I won't tarnish Matt Landry's name by having it on this same blog with two others of a lesser distinction, not even capitalize their titles.

Those two cowards received life in prison, not good enough, but I hope they are met daily with baseball bats, top to Bottom.

Stephen G at AAA York Pa.

What a surprise I received yesterday at AAA. I met a young man, Stephen G. to help me with airline travel. After going on line and someone else also going on line rates to my destination were all about the same , over six hundred. My daughter asked, I wonder what a travel agent could do, so I called AAA  right away and my usual agent was out, so I willingly accepted to see this guy, Stephen. I went right in as he gave me  a better offer by phone and I wanted to lock in that rate.
In about forty five minutes as I sat across from him, ready to pay he   asked if I was willing to fly out of another airport. Sure. He found a lower rate, saving me two hundred bucks. TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS off the original price! Plus no baggage charges with Southwest! That would have been about fifty bucks since I've already traveled  to the same place.
Thank you Stephen. You were kind , gentlemanly and so helpful. AAA, you have a great guy.
