Bicycles and Legos

Bicycles and Legos

Toys to many, some they are
but to me they're connections
near and far.

Sitting on the floor
building  bigger and more
I know soon what's in store

I get to the top,
 and I'm almost done
he adds ten more, then he runs

This is love and brings us together
as no one knows how
we love each other

Then there are bikes they have in common
a specialized for me
I can fly like a Robin

The family gets on
riding in tandem
five in a row connected by hands on

Connections we don't realize ever
until the time
we're together

We talk, we chat and then we say
how about legos
again today
How about a bike ride
one after the other
father to son and with the mother
then they add another child
 and the baby
man that's wild !

Sign-In, Sign-up, Screw That

Oh Please help me...why is it every time you want more info you have to sign in, sign up-sign off, get in, get on, get out!!!! Don't you just wish you never heard of technology, computers, phones, TV's, landlines, automatics this n' that. It's all too much. So what to do. Get out of town for a few days.
But as you drive along you think, oh crap, I forgot my phone, no wait, I didn't want it in the first place, but what If I get a flat, how will I survive and then where the hell am I? Why isn't my GPS not working. I'll call that automatic car help thingy. Nooo, I don't have my phone.
Then I remember, I brought along my bike. I push the car off to the side, unhook my bike and put my helmet on. No Bike Lane !!! SCREW that! I didn't have bike lanes growing up and I'll just make it work. Sirens. I hear sirens. I move as close to the edge but not good enough. A cop stops, pulls me over, gives me a ticket for riding a bike in a no bike zone and no headlight. So I start to tell the nice policeman about my plight and he says, sorry bub, gotta rush. Sure, but he had time to give me a Freakin' Ticket !!!
Technology-thanks a lot.  Sign me, signing off after I sign out to put the TV on

Freakin kool-DIY BIke Wall Hanger !

I am searching on a best way to hang my bike in my room. Doing a lot of room changing , getting rid of electronics and wooden hobby signs, feels so good to have more space. So I found this site. Please check it out.

You do have to have some knowledge of tools but it is mainly made from an old bicycle handle, turned upside down which makes it a very secure and firm place to hang your bike. I have one big hook and hope that works. Will let you know in a few days, after more rearranging.

So here it is. Look up KYLE WILSON DIY wall bike hangar. It pops up on a first page in yahoo. Happy Biking...oh the pic is kool. He has his hanging right smack in the middle of a double window, like art.

Children's Values, THINGS or PEOPLE

If you are about to become  a new parent, please teach your children about the value in people not things. I don't want to preach here, yet I guess I am. When it comes to gifts children get, and clothes they wear, their values are all inside out and upside down.
It's never too late. It really isn't and may be hard to take away that gaming hand held device you bought "because all the kids have them" which doesn't make sense and you want a child who is a carbon copy or do you? Start now. A day a week, then two then three and finally it's one day a week they get to use them.
Yes, it's rough if you work or are a single parent who comes home dog-tired and you don't want to do anything with your child as far as entertainment, so here are a few helps:
Have cards or game night. Start early, make sandwiches for supper, egg salad, tune, or pb&j on that night. You can even invite another neighbor child over and you can rest.
Have a library night or day, mid-week and Saturday. Saturdays the library usually has something going on, like reading dogs and I know age makes a difference.
Look into knitting for all ages and if you can't afford it, look into meet-up groups in your neighborhood. Just go to yahoo or google, search  meet-up groups.
Church: many have mid week bible studies and teen groups that don't seem and aren't bible thumping as many might think.
Start walking the high school track, or biking on a trail. Biking doesn't have to be expensive. Check out TOMY brands. An ad should be listed and shown. All positive suggestions. Outdoors and exercise go hand in hand with fun and freedom.
Buy a camera-let him or her learn early on appreciating what's around them and let them enter contests.

Teach your kids to help neighbors and at recycling places, food banks
become a hospital junior volunteer.
Get in touch with a close friend and ask for help and suggestions.
Most of all get them a hobby, painting, carpentry, knitting, guitar, writing (which is free) and let them read a good book. Good luck, I know it isn't easy.
Food, easy tip ideas: Make a crock pot of stew, two night meals and later a crick of chicken breasts. You can make on tottilla wraps shredded chicken with lettuce and tomato, or rice, chicken and beans with leftovers.
Buy a kids health cook book and use it in a way to arrange short cuts in your own way.

The Lone Bike Rider-Patience Please

One Road, One Lone Rider

After an  appointment today I ended up on a country road close to home and then I noticed the fast pedal of a rider. As I inched closer I saw the bent over shape that I became familiar with. I am fairly certain the rider was a he, but never sure. All riders look alike to me with the exception of my son Mike. I could pick him out in the middle of New York.
This rider wore Yellow with a few black markings and in the sunlight, his suit of armor stood out. A helmet, sturdy to protect his head, was white with blue and black stripes. He turned and considering we both had sunglasses on, an understanding, a connection if you will, was made. My car leaned to the left as I gave him enough space of safety since he turned to look at my oncoming car. I felt a sense of things being right as I watched him disappear in my rear view mirror.
When I got home, I went to my room where I house my Specialized bike, a gift from my kids to help restore my youth, and health of course. I dusted off the seat, then checked out my carrier straps. I made a promise alone with my bike. Prioritize better. Get back on my bike and feel the wind. It won't matter how fast or slow I go. My bike will know; I'm back in the saddle, so will my mind.
I remembered too how I bragged about starting a plant based way of life, how great I felt and it wasn't just a loss of weight but emotionally I felt as if not only did things not bother me as before, but my attitude changed. Then I stopped both, used carpel tunnel and rotator cuff issues as an excuse. There was another factor; I was dealing with a teen who left me feeling lifeless, and I changed. Instead of keeping the focus on my health, I kept it on his. That didn't work as I then became home bound, somewhat depressed, and left without motivation. He has moved as was his pattern and now I am back to being me.
But it took my son's bike race, reminders of how his eating habits changed, his weight loss, his baby boy on his Strider Hot Walk, and todays' one Lone Rider. The next time you see a group of riders or one lone rider, have patience please, after all he or she is doing what you probably can't or won't and changing the ozone at the same time. Talk about re-cycle. It isn't made any more clear than that.

Haro, Specialized Bikes, Family Fun

There's nothing like taking a family bike ride, and if not the whole family then just get yourself out and ride. I have a Specialized bike that my kids bought for  me when I was visiting in Nebraska. For years I told both my son and daughter how much I missed riding a bike, They both knew to some degree I shouldn't ride because of back issue so putting two heads together they decided to get my measurements and specialize the Specialized bike.
Landing in Nebraska, my son drove me with my daughter to the BIKE WAY bike shop. All had one thing in common, bikes. Out in the parking lot I got on my bike and rode it around. What a feeling! I won't tell you just how many years it was that I rode last, but it felt like yesterday. That old saying is true;it's like riding a bike, all comes back to you. I even forgot for a while that I was being watched closely by both my son and daughter. It was a great feeling knowing my kids wanted me on a bike as much as I did, for health and happiness reasons.
Well I have learned more about bikes, such as brands, fat tires, safety, bikes for certain terrain, small, medium, tandem and just that there are bikes for anyone, any size and any shape.
Check out Haro, Trek, Klein, Ellsworth and of course my favorite, Specialized. My son recently bought a bike which is made for snow. It has fat tires and he does use it for other kinds of weather, but mainly loves it in snow. He has a picture of it on his face book page, McColganphoto so check it out.
My son will be here soon with two bikes, one he'll be using in a sixty mile race in  Gettysburg this weekend and the family is going along. The dogs stay home to protect mi casa:) Don't forget, shop well before you choose the bike made just for you. It's an expense well worth while for happiness and health. Big wheels a turning...
