A Universal Face ?

       Tonight I went to dinner with a very young guest. We both love steaks and my most favorite restaurant is Logan's in York Pa. But I have also been to The Embers and have never had a poor experience. Tonight was no different and to think I almost went home. Driving over to Logan's, the parking lot was overflowing with cars and I wasn't about to wait. So as not to disappoint myself and my little guy I went driving around for that steak dinner and nothing but a steak would do, but it had to be a good one.
         Driving up route thirty in my area I thought we'd go to one other place but I found myself in a wrong lane and veered off onto 83 and then I found myself on Market street and knew where I was going, to The Embers. I just hoped beyond hope it wasn't overcrowded. It was just right even though again the lot was full of cars. The Embers has a nice size bar closed off from the restaurant which is nice for families with younger children.
    We were quickly seated and out waitress Katie came over a just right smiled and none of the giddy, high voice talking to an adult as if a child. Those waitresses annoy the crap out of me. She even spoke to my little guest in a voice that showed him, she is an adult here to take a food order, yet friendly, helpful and didn't speak at all to him as if he was a baby.
     As I looked at her I mentioned that she looked familiar and her so nice response was one I never heard before. I have a Universal Face. WOW! What a perfect phrase and of course that sends pictures thought my thoughts of so many places. "Universal" in itself describes a lot. We went on to order two Fillet Mignon each cooked differently, garlic mashed potatoes and broccoli. The mashed potatoes could have been hot and they were only, and barely warm. Yet I found I couldn't complain because we had a great waitress and the steaks were fantastic, the main reason for me to go to The Embers Restaurant.
      Katie was a very good example of how a waitress should be. She waited while I cut my steak, and walked off while we ate yet stayed in sight in a timely way, so as not to hover making people nuts, but being around just enough so as not to wait too long to have another cup of coffee or whatever we needed. She also asked the child, not forgetting he too was a patron and just because the adult was paying, she made sure the child counted.
      That is one Universal face I will never forget again. Courtesy, good manners, great food and a wonderful,  professional personality make me know I will definitely return to the Embers.
Thank you Katie :) You may indeed have a Universal face, but all about you is unique. We appreaciated how you took care of us this evening.

ADKINS vs. JILLETTE

   The Red Cross or Opportunity Village . While both are useful and great organizations, one is worldwide and one is on the West Coast. That is unless Opportunity Village is all over, I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge concerning Opportunity Village. What I do know about this is, it is for those with developmental disabilities, always a good charity. I know. Some years back I worked in mental health which was involved in both the mental retardation aspects and mental health.
   Never have I had any personal experience with the Red Cross except when they came to the agency I worked for to have people donate blood. Yet in any disaster or crisis anywhere in the world, the Red Cross is there, to provide shelter, medical, food and clothing. Neither one in my opinion is more important except for scale. People are people and when a need arises, people are there weather it be, The Red Cross or The Opportunity Village.
   I love Trace Adkins, always hoping somehow he'll discover my songs, well poems because they are great and make this retired woman a little bit financially better off. When talking about his charity I do wish Trace would talk more about how The Red Cross affects many more and how far and wide, than just his own experience. Yet, Trace, please contact me to send you a few too cool songs like, I left Jesus on My Doorstep or I love Men in Plaid Wool Shirts.
   Penn Jillette's entertainment with his sidekick partner is beyond good. Little did I know much about him before The Apprentice and the more I watched him and listened to him, I was able to see past the magic. As he gave credit to his partner quite a few times and talks so sincerely about his charity and his kindness comes through with each segment, well all I can say is Penn, you're a winner.
   Men, two big men, I can only hope it's a draw. Because in my book you Two Big Men are on the same side.

Judy at Rutters, Kenneth rd. York Pa.

   Have you ever gone into a convenience store to get a quick sandwich? I have, maybe more than I need to. Well I love scrambled egg sandwiches on a toasted croissant, and I love to buy it at this particular Rutters store, mainly because of the toppings they offer unlike another convenience store. That "other" store may offer the same toppings but not on the breakfast menu.

    So here I walk in and right away Judy smile, seems to know me by sight and knows what I like, so opne day she smile and said egg on croissant with and mentioned my favorite toppings. Well that surprised me, but made me feel she pays attention to her customers. I answered yeah, so do I still have to...she said yes, put the order in by machine, still smilig.
    Late this morning I went in and right to the back, ordered my usual and boy it was ready in such a short time. Before I finished getting coffee, Judy was handing over my sandwich with a smile. Thank you Judy, you make my visits nicer when I'm in a rush, and people we know when we're in a rush we tend to remember more those who aren't so nice, but when you meet Judy, rushing or not, it just makes the day nicer. Hey Rutters, how about an appreciation bonus for Judy?  No, I'm not a personal friend, but I do notice service people and how they treat consumers and she is exceptional in her department!

Those Rutters' KIds York New Salem Pa.

       Just want to give a thank you, to those kool young people at Rutters. I stop in  a lot as many do and notice how they treat people. One young lady always offers a smile to just about everyone, and gives a hi, how are you?  She asks questions, not too personal, but enough to let a person know she cares and  not let a line form. When a line happens she is right there pitching in, so Miss T, thank you for all of your hard work and kindnesses. BONUES TIME RUTTERS?
       Now I don't want to single out just one person, but like many who stop in we relate to whomever we have the most contact with at any given time. Some people just have a more reserved personality, want to do their work and not reach out. That's really okay too. No one is rude, short tempered, but just being them selves.
Sometimes it takes a smile to get one. Sometimes it takes offering a kind word, let people know you notice how devoted they are, after all we don't know how the upper crust treats their employees. BONUS TIME RUTTERS?
    Some are part-time BONUS TIME RUTTERS? and I may not see them much, but I do see too how the guys also work. We forget when we talk about companies who have more females and the guys get stuck on the back burner, not noticed as much. Well the two guys I see most are on the ball as well, and goal oriented. They have pleasant personalities and like the ladies offer kind words, short funny stories and take care of business at the same time. I have seen other young guys who, when I come in are working, so again... BONUS TIME RUTTERS?
     So to all of the Rutter Employees at York New Salem, I appreciate the people you are, the work you do, and how you make a day better for this consumer, which in turn makes me want to continue to patronize this particular store.
